OUR STORY

BEHIND THE BAMBARA™️ BRAND...

Bambara is the native language of Mali, The home of Shea. The common name is shísu ߛ߭ߌ߭ߛߎ‎ meaning ‘shea tree’ in the Bambara language. This is the origin of the English word ‘Shea’. The shea tree grows naturally in the wild in the dry savannah belt of West Africa from Senegal in the west to Sudan in the east, and onto the foothills of the Ethiopian highlands.

HISTORY OF SHEA BUTTER

In the ancient times, shea butter was used for a variety of things especially beauty purposes. In ancient Egypt, shea butter dates back to the time of Cleopatra. She used shea butter for skin and hair care as we are told that the butter was carried in large clay pots to her. The earliest  shea butter commerce can be tracked in ancient Egyptian trade during the reign of King Merenre, approximately 4300 years ago.

Global trade of shea butter dates not only back to Cleopatra's Egypt, but was a very popular item of trade in the Middle Ages throughout West Africa and into the coastal regions. It was also traded heavily as an oil in European markets.

OUR WORK

We believe Education will change everything for the next generation of Mali, which is why at BAMBARA™️ we partner with local charities in Mali. We donate a portion of every sale to the children of Mali and their futures.

For the children of rural Mali, school is too often just a dream. The dream of education is a dream of better health, less poverty, more stability, less war.  We believe every child deserves to live those dreams...do you?

Every purchase of BAMBARA™️ products gives the gift of education. Education means Mali's kids will lift themselves, and their country, out of extreme poverty.
